Why Should a Distance Runner Do Plyometrics? via @runnersworld #FitFluential

I recently joined a track club and specified to the coach that I wanted to train for long-distance events. Besides having to train with 12-year-olds, I also have to go through the embarrassment of doing broad jumps, triple jumps, etc. Is all that jumping really going to improve my performance? Am I wasting my time trying to jump farther instead of training for my specific event?
