No one—including Moore—expected she would win. “I honestly went into the race going, ‘I wonder how fast I can run this?’” Moore told Runner’s World by phone. “Winning was not on my radar at all. That was kind of a cherry on top.” Early in the race, while Moore was running in third place, wearing headphones around her neck. A race official got her attention and told her that if she used her headphones, she could be disqualified, because she was currently in third place. She removed them. Moore moved into the lead around mile 10 and never relinquished it. Still, her focus was more on running a good time and getting to the finish line.
