But the changes were no greater than those of 1,779 matched runners who did not begin statin treatment. The analysis, which was published by Mayo Clinic Proceedings, was performed by NRHS founder Paul Williams, Ph.D., and longtime running and heart expert Paul Thompson, M.D. “We found no significant negative impact of statin therapy on 10K race or marathon performance [the statin users actually slowed less over 10K], and therefore no compelling evidence to forego statin therapy,” the co-authors wrote.
