He doesn't train. He drinks more beer than water. Somehow, he finishes marathons.

That might seem like a weird thing to say. Unless you know Keith. Just because my husband is running Marine Corps, does not mean he’s training for Marine Corps. Nope. Not that guy. While most of us have already logged some seriously long runs, not to mention hills and maybe some tempos, Keith has run 10 miles. Once. His cumulative training mileage is 10 . He and I both ran our first marathon in 2013 at Marine Corps. While I abided by the plan, Keith logged a total of 11 runs, one 20-miler, and by the time he reached the starting line that morning, had already eaten three bagels and three bananas. We started the race together, but as I maintained my borrowed (from executive editor Tish Hamilton) mantra of “pass no one” he gradually—a half-step, a full step, a stride—pulled away from me and disappeared into the mass of runners ahead.
