In the last few years, I’ve trained my brain to rethink my Mom duties and see new opportunities to run. My son doesn’t need constant supervision but still needs my shuttle services. So now I loop the ball park before his games, run intervals behind the fence during practice, go for an easy stroll (so I won’t sweat too much) before band concert, get some long runs around the mall, and pickup up some shorter runs while he is in the arcade with his friends. Before I would either read a book during this time, hurriedly run errands, or just lose the time with idle chit-chat. I’ve still there for my son but I’m taking care of myself. I’ve seen something interesting too – other parents have noticed it and have asked to join me. One baseball mom has started training for her first half now and another asked to join me tonight.
