13 tips for safely running a marathon from our Sports Doc:

Meet with your physician if you are unsure of your health, you have had a change in health, or you have new unexplained symptoms. If you are on medications be sure to discuss with your physician your race plan and which medications are safe for you to take on race day. If your race has a runner medical app, use it; if not, write your name, age, date of birth, emergency contact, and any medical information you think is important for the medical team, in case you have a medical emergency during the race. If you have a medical alert tag, wear it. If you have asthma, carry your rescue inhaler. If you are diabetic, carry a glucose tab or gel packet. If you have been ill in the week prior, consider not running or at least slow your pace. Know your heat limit; slow down or do not start if it seems too hot for you.
