Researchers at Technical University of Munich compared the vitamin C intake of 185 runners after the Munich Marathon against their incidents of upper-respiratory-tract infections. Those who consumed less than 50 milligrams of vitamin C daily (not quite a half cup of OJ) had a 250 percent greater rate of URTIs compared with those who consumed 100 milligrams. JUST ADD SALT The News: Cyclists in a study at Appalachian State University in North Carolina, drank a salt solution two hours before a 60-minute workout, resulting in faster time trials compared with a control group.
