Running Program for Child Soldiers Launching in Uganda

LRA factions are now believed to roam areas of South Sudan, the northeastern border of the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Central African Republic. Last year, the advocacy group Invisible Children launched Kony 2012 , a campaign to push the international community to capture Kony. He remains at large. COPU provides multiple forms of counseling for the children, including talk and cognitive behavioral therapies. The running program will be its newest form of rehabilitation. “Running will provide physical recovery for children since most of them were subject to torture,” says Jane Ekayu, a trauma therapist and COPU’s co-founder and executive director. Running is COPU's first movement-based program. The group has successfully employed art therapy, and Ekayu believes the variety is essential.
