Three Kenyan elite runners, including a 2:05 marathoner, get doping bans. Possibly a sea change here.

Athletics Kenya’s assurance that it would become more vigilant about performance-enhancing drug use has been manifested in the suspension of three distance runners on drug offenses, CapitalFM Sports is reporting . Wilson Loyanae Erupe and Nixon Kiplagat Cherutich have been suspended for two years, and Moses Kiptoo Kurgat for one. Loyanae tested positive for EPO, which improves oxygen-carrying capacity. Kiplagat tested positive for nandrolone, an anabolic steroid, after a race in Mexico. Available news reports do not specify Kiptoo’s offense. Loyanae (whose name appears in slightly different variations in race results) is the world-class athlete of the trio, having won the 2012 Seoul International Marathon in 2:05:37. A female runner may be banned when official procedures of her case are completed. Her “A” sample tested positive at the 2012 Nairobi Marathon in October, and ...
