Q: How can I train to run in minimalist shoes? A:

Wear them for post workout pickups. Example: Run 30 seconds at a moderate effort focusing on form and landing and follow with 2-3 minutes of walking. Repeat 4-6 times, 2-3 times per week and hold it here for 2-3 weeks. Build up to 1:00—2:00 pickups and hold for 2-3 weeks. Begin to weave in continuous running by finishing the final 5-10 minutes in your minimal shoes (or start the warm up for the same amount of time). This is very convenient if you’re a treadmill runner. If not, you can run loops or carry a pack and change out your shoes. As your body adapts increase the amount of time. It is important to note some runners continue to use minimal shoes for drills, pickups and walking while others can run short to longer workouts in them.
