In regards to your comment about pain tolerance, you should read The Secret Race: Inside the Hidden World of the Tour de France. (Even though you said you already have a stack of books to read, you should add this to your list!) It’s the story of Tyler Hamilton, one of Lance’s team members and then competitors. He talks about how his high threshold for pain made him an incredible endurance athlete, and even that he liked getting to the point where it was so painful cause he could just keep pushing through. In one race he broke his collar bone but got up and kept riding and grit his teeth to manage the pain. He ended up grinding down most of his teeth through the enamel, but finished the race! My husband, who is also a triathlete like you, loved the book.
