By Scott Douglas There's loud, and then there's loud. The finish of the men's Olympic 5000-meter final was the latter. How loud? So loud that it affected the finish-line camera and made the track's lane lines look wavy, as can be seen in the photo at the right that track's international governing body released on Saturday. That was the result, of course, of Great Britain's Mo Farah winning his second gold medal of the London Olympics. Timing officials think it's the first time stadium noise has reached so high a volume that it's had this effect. Volume at 130 or more decibels can cause immediate hearing damage. For this distortion to have occurred, the volume is estimated to have reached 140 decibels. By way of comparison , the volume of a jackhammer up close is about 110 decibels, and an emergency vehicle siren is roughly 115 decibels. 140? That's more like a jet taking o...
