The New York City Marathon will no longer transport runners' bags from the start on Staten Island to the finish in Central Park, the New York Road Runners announced this morning . In a notice sent to marathon registrants and posted on its site earlier today, NYRR said the new policy is intended to relieve the post-race congestion of recent years as runners exited Central Park and retrieved bags checked at the start. Last year, 46,579 people finished the marathon, making it the largest marathon in history; 76 UPS trucks carried at least 625 bags each from the start to the finish.
