I am obviously uninformed Steve because I had no idea about "Helen" (or I could actually be enlightened). As I work with soccer players, and do come from the "S&C" world, I would fit into your stereotype. However, the pseudo scientist from the F.A. who has been sending out "programmes" to the players is a one man polarisation argument; his endurance programmes last about 2 hours on treadmills, rowing machines and bikes. His strength programmes include deadlifts, weighted planks and the dreaded nordic curl. My point, which I think is missing from your blog, is the specificity of transfer. I agree with your surmise, but how we apply that in training is important, because the difference in soccer compared to middle distance running is the meachnical loading of the stop/ start change of direction.
