I topped out at Col Fenêtre feeling great and ready to descend. I paused for a moment, breathed in the fresh mountain air, and then threw on my iPod, ready for some hardcore motivation. I put it on my ‘MOTIVATE’ playlist, which was pretty much a compilation of Schwarzenegger, Rocky, and Muhammad Ali reciting various movie lines. I started to feel pumped and found myself muttering the lines out loud as I ran down the steep, precarious slopes on to Rhêmes-Notre-Dame (4,000 feet of descent in three miles). “WHO AM I? I AM THE CHAMPION!” I yelled out loud as I roared past one of the other runners. “It’s not about how hard you get hit; it’s about how hard you can GET HIT AND KEEP MOVING FORWARD… THAT’S HOW WINNING IS DONE!” I yelled even louder as I watched the lights of other runners from the distance turn toward me. I must have been scaring the crap out of them. I didn’t care...
