With Russia Still Banned from International Competition, 44 Athletes Have Applied to Compete Under a Neutral Designation By Adam Kopet , DyeStat Editor Last month, the IAAF upheld the ban of Russia from international competition and set forth an application process Russian athletes must follow to compete under a neutral designation both for Diamond League events and the IAAF World Championships. During the 2016 Olympic Games, Darya Klishina was the only Russian track and field athlete to take part in the games. She was the only Russian athlete who could distance herself from the state-sponsored doping allegations as she trains in the U.S. Competing in the long jump, Klishina finished ninth.
