With the change of season, the lingering darkness, cold and occasional rain, it may seem unlikely you would be keen to get outside and keep running. Remember the old adage: There is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing and a bad attitude? So suit up and get out there, and if you need a bit more motivation, here are six ‘without-a-doubt’ reasons running is good for you. It keeps you young. A 21 year study at Stanford University in the US showed that runners suffered fewer disabilities, stayed active for longer and halved their risk of early death, as running improves bone density, helps lower blood pressure and maintains the elasticity of arteries (which reduces the risk of heart attack or stroke). As an added benefit it can also reduce the signs of ageing, as increased circulation means increased oxygen and nutrients to skin cells and the flushing of toxins. It ...
