We put three $99 GPS watches to the test. Here's how they fared:
Modern wristwatches have a dizzying array of features—GPS, heart rate monitoring, virtual pacing, time and distance alerts, maps, music players, and much, much more. All that complexity comes at a cost: hard-earned cash. But a new crop of wallet-friendly GPS watches are now available that do the bare essentials—record time and distance. Runner's World got a look at three such watches, all of which are currently available for $99: Timex Marathon GPS, Soleus GPS 1.0, and New Balance GPS Runner. When test samples of the watches arrived at RW headquarters, the first thing we noticed was that all three used the same USB charging cable (seen, at right). Further exploration of the watches' functions would reveal far more similarities. As we dug in to menu options and settings on the watches, we found each to be nearly identical.
