The goal of a high school cross country season is straightforward: Run a series of strong 5Ks leading to a peak performance at the end of the season. Many adult runners have a similar goal. Despite differences in age and experience, it stands to reason that adults can learn from the experience of the thousands of youth attempting this task every fall, and particularly from the coaches who guide them. The nation's finest high school coaches have decades of experience working year-round with hundreds of young runners seeking excellence in the mile, 2-mile and 5K cross country.
