T&FN names its 2014 Women's Athlete Of The Year: Polish hammer thrower Anita Włodarczyk.

The 29-year-old Pole got fierce competition from Adams, who came close to becoming the first woman ever to win 3 times in a row. Our 33-member international panel gave Adams 15 No. 1 votes to 13 for Włodarczyk, but the World Record-setting hammer thrower did better in the lower places to win by 297–286, getting 90% of a perfect vote.
