What to do if you experience heart palpitations while running:

You are describing palpitations with heavy exercise that need to be investigated thoroughly. While the heart rate is supposed to increase with exercise to move the blood to and from the muscles; 200+ is too fast and with associated palpitations suggests your heart is not working well at higher levels of exercises. When the heart does not contract in “synchrony” or beats too fast, the pumping action is not effective, giving you the feeling you are using low octane gas in a high octane engine. You are not describing chest pain or pressure, but you do describe the fatigue that can accompany a heart that is not contracting well. This can also mean not enough oxygen is getting to the heart muscle, in addition to inadequate blood flow to the leg muscles.
