How to take a break from "race mania" (but not lose your love of running)

What is this off-season thing you speak of? ~ @TheMeatlessMarathoner Thank you for posting this question on my AskCoachJenny Facebook page. Although I think it was posted in humor, it's actually an incredibly vital topic. This column has been simmering for several months. As I continue to coach and field training questions from runners, I tend to see patterns develop. Some patterns are healthy (cross-training). Some are just fun (wearing tutus in races). But the one that I see currently is showing signs of trouble ahead. The "Race Craze" is spreading like wild fire. It's when a runner commits to one race after another after another (after another) without allowing for any time off during the year. I get it. Truly I do. Races are fun.
