BRIEFS: James Nielson breaks 5 minutes in the Beer Mile

James Nielsen of California trained hard and studied hard. His work paid off. Nielson posted a video of himself attempting to run under 5 minutes in the beer mile. Nielson made his attempt Sunday and the footage, which has previously been posted to Competitor.com and Flotrack.org , is below. What is the beer mile, you ask? Drink a beer, run a lap, repeat. Drink four beers, run four laps, don't throw up and you've run a beer mile. Beermile.com keeps track of "official records" and lists Josh Harris of Melbourne, Australia as the beer mile record holder with a time of 5:04.9. In 2012, Olympian Nick Symmonds ran a 5:15 beer mile, which he wrote about here (video included). Nielson finished in 4:57, then got a ride home from his wife.
