“Marathon” is more than an overused cliché to describe the instantly famous filibuster of an abortion bill by Texas state Senator Wendy Davis. Davis is a runner who draws on running imagery in her public speeches or to describe her life as a single mother, and whose training on the steamy roads of Fort Worth, her friends say, likely gave her the endurance on Tuesday to stand and talk for almost 13 hours under rules that prohibited her from sitting down, leaning on her desk, or snacking. Shod in $115 Mizuno Wave Rider 16s widely misreported to be “tennis shoes,” Davis, a Democrat from Fort Worth who is 50, used her filibuster to successfully block a vote on proposed Republican bill that would have restricted access to abortion. 
 The tactic began at 11:18 a.m. and didn’t end until after 3 in the morning, when the bill’s supporters conceded defeat as chanting throngs cheered...
