YOU'VE GOT THE POWER: After social media uproar, @Naperville26 lowers entry fees

Organizers of the inaugural Naperville Marathon have experienced what we identified as the #2 trend in running in 2012 : runners using social media to hold races accountable. In this case, online runner reaction caused the marathon to lower its entry fee by almost one-third before registration even opened. In December , organizers announced that the Chicago area would have a new marathon and half-marathon, to be held in Naperville, Illinois, on November 10. Registration for the races opens Monday, January 28. As the Daily Herald reports , on Wednesday the race unveiled entry fees of $150 for the marathon and $115 for the half-marathon. Runners' reactions were swift and strong in protest to the prices.
