How much does an extra pound slow you down?
I’ll confess, right at the top, that I don’t love writing about how losing weight will make you faster. In a perfect world, hitting a good racing weight will be a consequence that flows naturally from training hard and eating well, rather than a distinct goal that you have to obsess over separately. But hey, we’re all curious about the numbers. How much, exactly, does an extra pound slow you down, anyway? That’s the question that researchers from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, in Greece, tackled in a study presented at the American College of Sports Medicine conference in Denver last week.
