Haile Gebrselassie Will Do Fukuoka Marathon. @HaileGebr #athletics

By Peter Gambaccini Photo by Photo Run Former marathon world record holder Haile Gebrselassie has tweeted, "I am happy to run Fukuoka marathon next month. I have good memories of winning in 2006." The Japanese race is on December 2. Gebrselassie, who set the former world best of 2:03:59 in Berlin in 2008, was fourth in the Tokyo Marathon earlier this year in 2:08:17. Gebrselassie won two Olympic and four IAAF World Championships gold medals in the 10,000-meter run. But he was unsuccessful in his attempt to make Ethiopia's 2012 Olympic squad at that distance. Fukuoka Marathon organizers have indicated that they'd welcome elite male athletes who'd been part of the invited field for the canceled New York City Marathon.
