Snub or Support?

As I neared the end of a recent 4-miler, I throttled back to cool down. About that time, a man walking from a home to his car directed his eyes toward mine. He wanted to tell me something. I thought, Does he need directions? Am I bleeding somewhere? Frothing? So I pulled out my earphones as I approached the car. “Hey, you’re looking great!” he said. “I saw you at the other place.” “Thanks,” I huffed, all the time thinking, Other place… Other place… Other place… What did he mean? The taco truck? As in, good to see you’re out here running, dumpo, because I saw what you had for lunch and that cheese ain’t doing you any favors. I rationalized that he meant nothing by “other place,” and that he probably just spotted me a few miles down the road, and hey, good for you, someone who doesn’t look like your prototypical rocket-ship runner, for getting out here and cranking some mile...
