By Scott Douglas "Transcend," a documentary with a planned summer 2013 release, will examine how several elite runners' religious faith brings meaning to their training and racing. "Many of the greatest endurance runners in the world find their identity in a particular faith," the film's promotional material states. "Belonging to something bigger than themselves, their faith gives them greater perspective and enables them to better deal with doubt and defeat." "Transcend" is under production by a Canadian team that includes producer/director Michael Del Monte, 26, who has run 3:46 for 1500 meters, or the equivalent of about a 4:04 mile. Del Monte also has a masters degree in theology from the University of Toronto, so the melding of his two interests is a natural topic for his first film.
