Relentless Forward Progress only mentions strength training as something that you can choose to do if you want, but it’s not really advocated. There’s nothing like a suggested plan either, of course. Bryon, from what he’s said in interviews, doesn’t do any ancillary work himself. And, in fairness, many of the top stars in the ultra/trail game are similar. I know Timothy Olson and Hal Koerner do strength training, but there are more that don’t than do. But it’s worth noting that many elite ultrarunners are running 20+ hours a week, logging thousands of feet of vertical over gnarly terrain. (Killian Jornet is probably the best example of this.) They’re getting strength and core work, just not in the gym. Most non-elites don’t have access to that kind of geography, nor the time to train that much.
