Study: Having 4+ drinks after exercise slows recovery, cognition. #GetYourModerationOn

Just noticed a new study from Australian researchers in the Journal of Strength & Conditioning Research about the effects of post-match alcohol on recovery from rugby games. As the authors note (with Aussie understatement): Engagement in alcohol consumption is a common post-exercise practice for many athletes, particularly within the Rugby League community. The study randomized Rugby League players to drink either vodka and orange juice (1 gram of alcohol per kilogram of body weight), or a taste- and calorie-matched control after a competitive league game. Then they recorded physical, physiological and cognitive measures of recovery 2 hours and again 16 hours after the match.
