For the next two weeks the world turns its attention to the London Olympic Games , a place where the top athletes from around the globe compete head-to-head with the dream of bringing home a coveted Olympic medal. Rivalries are fierce and national pride can hang in the balance. Winners are welcomed home as heroes having beaten the world’s best to emerge victorious. The rare few who stand on the podium are recognized for their individual excellence and superiority. Such are the modern day Olympics. It might surprise you to learn that this recognition of individual performance is a much different focus than what the original Greek forefathers had in mind when they conceived the Olympic Games.
