On Sunday, The Facebook page of the Hansons Brooks Distance Project , the Michigan training group of which Davila is a member, contained an announcement that "it is with great sadness that we must inform everyone that Desiree Davila has not been able to successfully overcome her hip flexor injury. After much thought and deliberation we have made the very difficult decision to not run the Olympic Marathon." But later in the day, Davila, the 2011 Boston Marathon runner-up and second place Olympic Trials finisher, Tweeted, "Wow, news to me! Just finished with team doctor, taking it day by day.
