The image you posted for this article is an example of how misunderstood stretching is. That woman is - supposed - stretching. But stretching means relaxing. People like to show their ability. To do that kind of stretching you MUST hold some fixed object or wall. Any small effort you make to keep your position - and of course you will need to do some to keep upright - and your stretching is broken. To stretching well you need NOT warm up, but need to to know how stretching works. You need not force your muscles, etc., just go to the point you feel a small (really small - specially for fingers) pressure - your body will automatically contract to protect itself and your joints - wait 20 seconds and your body will realize there is no danger and will relax, loosing itself and STRETCHING.
