Q: Are rest days really necessary? A: #runningtips

Most of the training plans I see include rest days or “easy” days. Are rest days necessary for good health? Here is why I ask: I started running to lose weight. Three years ago I lost 80 pounds and have kept it off. I run for fitness and personal challenge, but have no desire to race against others. I run six days a week in the mornings mostly on a treadmill but outdoors as well. I ran 2,150 miles last year, averaging seven miles per day last year and only had foot strain injuries from changing my pace. I hope to run about eight miles a day, 50 miles per week and pass 2,500 this year. I personally like the challenge of getting up every morning and never giving in to the temptation to skip a workout. I also include pushups, crunches, and pull-ups in my prerun warm-ups. I do live with some muscle soreness in my calves pretty much all of the time, but nothing that I would cal...
