It's been one of the biggest surprises in health research over the past few years: sitting too much raises your risk of death, no matter how much you exercise . Another new study, just published by Australian researchers in the Archives of Internal Medicine (press release here ), confirms this finding. Here's the key graph: The study followed 222,497 individuals aged 45 or over for an average of about three years, during which time 5,405 people died. What you see in the graph is that the more you exercise, the less likely you are to die -- BUT, within each exercise category, the more you sit, the more likely you are to die. In other words, even if you're exercising for 5 hours per week, spending your whole day seated still raises your risk of death.
